60 Million Dollar Man (Jing Wong & Wai Man Yip, 1995)
Playing out like a better Chinese equivalent of Scary Movie, Wai Man Yip’s 60 Million Dollar Man is an insanely derivative film, successively parodying The Six Million Dollar Man, Pulp Fiction, Terminator and The Mask quite explicitly as well as probably referencing half-a-dozen films non-Chinese audience can’t necessarily pick up on (such as the Fight Back to School films), this early look at the comedic genius of actor-turned-director superstar Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7) is at times aggravating and quite convoluted but mostly awesome, dumb and ridiculously entertaining.
