Here we go again, spending money I shouldn’t spend.
Total: 150$. Not too bad.
My Criterion Barnes & Nobles 50% Off Sale purchases…30 films, 29 discs.
Now, my uncle - who happened to be in New York, thus saving me the trouble of ordering and paying shipping - better come back soon so I can get my hands on these beauties! In all honesty, this might be the most exciting selection of films I’ve ever purchased. This fall is going to be most delightful. If you ever wondered what my favorite national cinema was, there you have it…
Criterion releases for October 2011 - #583-586 + E#29
Such a solid month. Both Kuroneko (underwhelming cover, I have to say) and Island of Lost Souls are absolute must-haves. Four Feathers and Identification of a Woman both sound stunning. Not pictured here: the new Kaurismäki Eclipse set and two of my favorite films getting a Blu-ray upgrades: Dazed and Confused and Harakiri! I keep telling myself I should hop on the Blu-ray wagon eventually…
+ Pigs, Pimps & Prostitutes: Three Films by Shohei Imamura, if money permits.
18 (or 21) films, 130-160$. Let’s keep some money stashed and make it happen…! Hopefully shipping will be reasonable.
I don’t care about Criterion anymore: just give me all of these. Bold indicates what I own, the rest I desperately need to get. Such and affordable, near perfect collection…I kinda wish the spine to Up From the Depths/Demon wasn’t fucked (read: inconsistent with the others; nerd alert!) but otherwise, I’ve been speechless.
Upcoming
Each year, His Holiness the Dalai Lama travels the world offering teachings and public talks to individuals from many different faiths and backgrounds. In 2010, His Holiness traveled to New York City to teach A Commentary on Bodhicitta by Nagarjuna and A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life by Shantideva.
Following the teachings, His Holiness the Dalai Lama went on to address a sold out crowd at Radio City Music Hall with Awakening the Heart of Selflessness, a public talk followed by a candid question and answer session. In this talk, His Holiness discusses ways in which one can achieve the realization of selflessness and ultimately achieve inner peace, which in turn generates a genuine sense of responsibility for the happiness of others and eventually creates a more compassionate world for everyone.
Hosted by The Gere Foundation and The Tibet Center and brought to you by Oscilloscope Laboratories, COMPASSION IN EMPTINESS presents two historic records of one of the world’s most important spiritual leaders and his unique message of wisdom and compassion.
This should be interesting. 4-disc DVD. Liner notes by Adam Yauch. Artwork by Shepard Fairey. Drops July 5th, from Oscilloscope Laboratories. Will only fuel my sudden interest in Tibet & Buddhism…But mostly: this poster is gorgeous and I can’t stop looking at it. It’s also late as fuck and I need to get back to work.
I shouldn’t complain, though. I’ve been buying a gazillion DVDs in the past weeks.
