The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher, 2011)
Things I need to do:
“In true Golan-Globus style, I thought it would be a good idea to have a one sheet for my in-development doc on Cannon Films, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO, even before financing began.”- Mark Hartley
The Story of Film: An Odyssey (Mark Cousins, 2011)
Holy crap! I’ve just discovered this, Irish film critic and all-around badass Mark Cousins’ epic 15h(!!!) documentary about the history of cinema, looks and sounds absolutely phenomenal! It played at TIFF in its entirety earlier this month (5 screenings, 3 episodes per screening) and is currently airing on Channel4 - which sadly, doesn’t stream in Canada. Hopefully it reaches DVD or some other alternative sooner than later!
This production still from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows adaptation, set to be released in 2012, makes me slightly hopeful. Does Burton, which is perhaps the first director I was infatuated with, have a last shot at redemption? Let’s hope so.
In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.
Yet again, I remember being quite excited for Alice when the stills came out…
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Jeremy Renner, Joss Whedon, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson & Robert Downey Jr. on the set of The Avengers (2012).
Say what you will about objective documentary truth and such, I’m incredibly excited about The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. It looks like the most meta of all meta films (a movie about the making of the movie you’re watching) and all-around incredibly ingenious. Advertising is a fascinating industry and I’m sure this will shed a whole different light on it.
This is going to be too good. The Hangover was the best comedy of 2009 as well as one of the best I’ve seen. Hopefully, the sequel lives up to the first film, which reminds me I still need to see Due Date. Or do I not? Also, I’m absolutely loving this is titled “Part II”.
Wow, does Green Lantern look fucking terrible. Not that I was anticipating the film one bit, but goddamn. It sure looks like shit. I believe going with an all-CGI suit was their fatal mistake. Also, I’m sorry to burst your bubbles, but, aside from the fact she’s a terrible actress, Blake Lively is hideous with brown hair.
I can’t fucking wait for this!! So is it called The Grand Master or Grandmasters? Does it matter? Do I need to see Ip Man? Whatever, Wong Kar-Wai and Tony Leung are back!!
